I recently received a ton of positive feedback from all my readers about the article I wrote showcasing an actual styling session….Many of you commented about how you love to see “real women” build “real, affordable wardrobes”….One woman I have styled is named Melissa Thorne. Melissa is the 47-year-old mother of two girls. She has been training to box in a charity event called “Haymakers for Hope”, which raises money for cancer research. Melissa is currently in amazing shape….she is actually killing the game I must say in the bod department…..she looks better than some 25 year olds! Melissa reached out to me because her body shape has changed due to all this rigorous training and her clothes are not fitting her right. Melissa said she wanted a mix of everything…..so I once again decided on Marshalls……by the way….it does not always have to be Marshalls…I have styled many women in Express, Old Navy, American Eagle, as well as a mix of stores on-line too.
Melissa wanted a little bit of work clothing….casual…date night…fun….everything……she does not like to pose for pics so I kinda had to “catch her” as she was trying stuff on….LOL
We literally tried on a TON of items…..like………
*Work Dress: Houndstooth is a trending print for fall because it fits in with the “menswear” look.
*Black Jumpsuit: Melissa was dying for a jumpsuit to wear out at night. We settled on a black one because it takes the place of a black dress for numerous events. I loved the split, wide leg pants on this particular jumpsuit because Melissa did not really have any items that fit the “70s disco trends” in her current wardrobe…and as we know…I LOVE the disco era!
*Multi-layer Top: This is perfect for her office attire, but as you can see, it also looks great with leggings for a casual look.
*Over-sized Camo Top: I taught Melissa that if you buy a size bigger in a top, you can get that funky off the shoulder look….
*Chunky Sweater: Melissa spends a lot of time in the hockey rinks with her two daughters, so this sweater is perfect for her. I also explained that this is a great item to have when you have to look presentable in snow and cold weather. It will look great with winter boots and leggings.
*Denim Tops and Numerous Black Leggings….Just because they are a must…
*Date Night/Girls Night Outfit: I was so excited that Melissa loved these shiny, almost leather looking, leggings….Super fun…and super trendy…..I explained that with her coloring….mauves and plums look amazing on her….so this tank was perfect…Tie up the side, add a long necklace and some black heels….and she will be good to go.
*Joggers/Crop Top: First of all…..everyone needs a pair of joggers. Second of all….camo is my fave…..AND she is legit fighting in a boxing match so the camo is perfect……Third of all…this girl NEEDS to rock a crop top….Look at those abs!!! She works hard for those!!!
*Plaid Shirt/Skinny Jeans: Melissa wanted a new pair of jeans, and she prefers this fit….and she does not own a plaid shirt!!! Fall must have!!! I love purples on her and was thrilled to find a plaid shirt in this color scheme.
*Colored Pants/Lace Blouse…..She DID NOT want to even try this on….she was a little horrified with the mustard color….haha….I explained that mustard is a huge trend right now in the fall color world AND the rule is that you have to try everything on…Imagine…it ended up being her favorite outfit!!!!!!!!!! The pants will also look great with the denim shirt she chose to buy, and the lace blouse would be perfect with pops of red for the holidays.
*Over-sized Cardigan: This literally has every color neutral in it…..you will never have to buy another sweater this fall!
*Black Dress Pants: These have a slight flare on the bottom…and Melissa does not have this fit of black pants…she actually wears all straight legs…and they were Michael Kors pants for less than $30!
*Sweater Coat: This coat is so soft, made in Italy, and is the perfect neutral!
READY FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!
6 BOTTOMS, 1 JUMPSUIT, 7 TOPS, 2 SWEATERS, 1 COAT FOR $350!!!! A WHOLE FALL WARDROBE!!
